My father James Laurie was a counsellor to President William Oates in the formation of the Sunderland Stake in 1963. My wife Doreen (Stevens) Laurie was baptized as a member of the Sunderland ward. We were married in the Sunderland Stake center in October 1967. We migrated to canada in 1969. My wife also received her patriarchal blessing from my father who was then the stake patriarch.

I am a descendant of LDS members who emigrated to the USA in the mid 1800'S. Some of them where from the Sunderland/ Newcastle area. They had surnames: Stewart, Parkinson, Pyrah, and Fisher. I am a member of the Banff/Canmore ward in Canada. I am planning to do an MA in Fine Art at University of Sunderland from Oct.2015-Nov.2016. It would be wonderful if I was able to locate family from 5-6 generations forward.

This is a wonderful website truly a labour of love.
I was born in South Shields and have been researching my Robson family for years. I always believed that they were all staunch Primitive Methodists but through recent research discovered that the sister of my GGfather was baptised into the LDS church and that several of her children and her widowed husband emigrated to the US. I myself was baptised in Sunderland in 1960 and would love to know the story behind the conversion of one of my ancestors. It was a joy to see her entry alongside the entry of her husband on this website.
Thank you for this historical record

Hi. This site is great, thank you. I am going to Sunderland for the first time on Saturday to look for family graves. I have done a lot of research getting ready but perhaps you can clarify something for me. My great great grandparent were buried in 'Sunderland Cemetery' but I am not sure where it is. There seem to be a lot called Sunderland Cemetery with sub titles and I have only got a day to do it all so I need to get my facts right before I go. They lived in Hendon Street and ran the Gladstone Inn - just incase it locates where they might be. Any help would be brilliant, thanks

Thank you so much Sheila for getting back to me and the information you supplied has absolutely made my day. If it wasn't for the fact the cemetery is locked up at this time of night (11:40pm) I would be on my way now. This means so very much to me as I prepare to leave Sunderland forever. Many thanks again.

I emailed seven days ago but have had no response or acknowledgement, could someone please respond as the matter is urgent as I will be moving to the Midlands in a matter of days and dearly want to visit my ancestors graves.

I would like to thank the people responsible for compiling the information on your Sunderland Cemetery Indexes. I stumbled across your website while researching my English ELLIOTT family history. The information you have made freely available is invaluable particularly to those based outside of the U.K. and is very much appreciated.

I am very interested in Bishopwearmouth Cemetery as I know some of my Robinson ancestors are buried here. I am hoping to find my great grandparents here, I already have my GG grandparents details, hoping you can give me some more help. Thanks for taking the time to set up this web site and for all the hard work you do in transcribing monumental stones, Fiona Fairhurst

I came across this website by accident and have sent you a separate email about my ancestors buried at Bishopswearmouth Cemetery. I look forward to hearing from you - you are doing a great job!

I'm so glad to find this website. My Storey ancestors were from this area before moving to the US and Utah around 1872. (Whitburn, Chester-le-
Street, Jarrow, Monkwearmouth...and in Northumberland, too.) I'm trying to straighten out my family history so I've got each ancestor accurately accounted for. Thanks for this resource.
